Dr. Edward Delane Garard was the son of John Garard who was born about 1836 in Ohio, and Sarah Ann (Tinsman) Garard who was born about 1838.

Neil Carrol Garard 1897–1959
Harold Garard 1900–1918

It is believed that Edward graduated from the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri, as he became a physician.

In 1910, Dr. Garard and his family were living in Pattonsburg, Daviess County, Missouri, where Edward had established a medical practice. They had three children at this time, and Lillie's mother, Elizabeth (Haupt) Beets, was also living with them. Lillie's father at this time was a patient at the State Hospital at St. Joseph, Missouri.

Lillian's mother, Elizabeth (Haupt) Beets, died in 1913, and her father, Andrew Jackson Beets, died in 1914. The Garard family moved to Wyoming sometime after this.

Edward and Lillian's youngest child, Harold Garard, died in 1918 at the age of 19 after a long illness. His condition got worse when he went on a fishing trip with his uncle Rev. William Haupt. He was originally buried on his uncle's ranch in Deaver, Wyoming, since the Deaver Cemetery was not yet finished. He was later moved to the Deaver Cemetery.

In the 1920 census, the Garard family is listed in Big Horn, Wyoming, where Edward appears to no longer be in medical practice. He is shown as doing general farming. Two Garard children are in the home, Mildred 24 and Neil 22, who are both public school teachers. Edward's half-brother, Alton Garard, and his family were neighboring farmers in this census.

Sometime after 1920, Edward and Lillie Garard separated. In the 1930 census, Dr. Garard was still a farmer, but he was now living alone. There is a "D" for divorced under his marital status. Edward died in October, 1930 and was buried at Deaver Cemetery.

Lillie remarried in 1929 to Wirt McKannon, and later divorced him. Lillie died in 1946 and is also buried at the Deaver Cemetery in Wyoming.
