Marguerite graduated from Timpson High School and attended business school. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lindsey Thornton on December 26, 1937.
Marguerite was a stay-at-home mother most of her life. In later years she worked for 20 years as a physician’s assistant for the Park Foot Clinic in Longview, Texas. She and her husband moved back to Shreveport in the later years to be near her daughter and family. Marguerite was the epitome of a southern lady and a true Christian. She was very talented in her cooking skills and sewing. Her attitude in everything she did was positive, believing that things would work out like they should with God in control. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday class. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved without condition, her only child, daughter, Donna and husband, Jim of Shreveport; her very special grandson, Jeff, his wife, Kristin; and her great grandchildren, Lindsey and Jonathan.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert Lindsey Thornton; her parents; and brothers, Sam Denard Henry, Robert Louis Henry and Frank Marion Henry. She is survived by daughter, Donna Kathryn Thornton Payne and husband, Jim Payne of Shreveport; grandson, Jeffrey Mark Payne and wife, Kristin Hogan Payne; great grandson, Jonathan Michael Payne; great granddaughter, Lindsey Kaylen Payne, of Flower Mound, Texas; sister-in-law, Billie Jo Henry of Port Arthur, Texas; and a number of extremely special nieces and nephews in Timpson, Garrison, Nacogdoches and Dallas, Texas and Orlando, Florida.
In November 2013, due to failing health, Marguerite moved to her requested new home at Montclair Parc Assisted Living. It was there she and her family found her home away from home. There are no words that can completely express the gratitude to Renee Matheny, Melanie Bond the staff and ALL the nurses aides who cared for her. There are too many names to mention but hopefully you know how grateful we are. To Dr. David Abdehou, there is not enough room to express our sincere gratitude for being so faithful and administering with such genuine care. Also, a special thank you to her caregivers prior to her move to Montclair, Marie Buffington, daughters, TJ and Tammy
