Enlisted, Dec. 16, 1895, in Troop C Cavalry, NYNG ( founding member ), Brooklyn, NY. Served with Troop C, NY Volunteer Cavalry, Spanish American War. Participated and saw combat during the Puerto Rico Champaign. Discharged from volunteer service, Nov. 25, 1898, Brooklyn, NY.

In April 1900, Troop C was called up for the Croton Dam Strike, he was at this time a 2nd Lieutenant.

On Feb. 9, 1905, he was promoted to Captain and commander of Troop 5, Squadron C Cavalry, NYNG, Brooklyn, NY. When Squadron C was reorganized into the First ( NY ) Cavalry Regiment, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. In this position he served on the Mexican Border ( 1916 - 17 ), when the 1st NY Cavalry was called.

With the arrival of the Great War, the 1st NY Cavalry was reorganized into the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions and 102th Trench Mortar Company, 27th Division.
He went abroad with the 27th Division, commanding the 102nd Ammunition Trans, transferred to the 3rd US Cavalry and then commander of the 116 Ammunition Trains, 41st Division. Discharged Feb. 27, 1919.
