Addison was called Addy - sometimes incorrectly heard as "Andy", leading some to wrongly conclude that his name was Andrew. Evan with that said, there is a family photo that has "Andie" written on the back. Several variations of his name appear in the federal census records.

Addison was first married 27 Jan 1889, Butler County, KS (near Seltzer Springs, Sedgwick County) to Martha E. Wilson, with whom he had three children: Edna (md 1st Dale Cuvelier and 2nd Richard Flum), George Tope and Ebert Tope. Martha died in 1899.

Addison was married 18 Apr 1907, Oswego, Labette Co, KS to Mary (Cole) Newcom, with whom he had one child: Verna Aureta Tope. This marriage was very brief.

Obituary:

Lyon Farmer Dead. Addison W. Tope, Lyon county farmer who lived northeast of Olpe, died at 11:30 o'clock Friday morning at the Newman Memorial County hospital. He had been sick for two weeks.

Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral Home. Rev. J. C. Brogan, pastor of the Grace Methodist church will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Selser cemetery, 11 miles southeast of Wichita.

Mr. Tope was born September 28, 1862 in Iowa and came to the Olpe neighborhood in 1914. He was married to Martha Wilson at Wichita, January 27, 1888 and Mrs. Tope died at Wichita in January, 1899. He is survived by a son Elbert Tope, at Wichita; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Flum, of Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Myra Joseph of Seattle and Mrs. Sadie Miranda of Clayton, N. Mex.; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral notice:

Funeral services for Addison W. Tope, Lyon county farmer, who died Friday, were held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral Home. Rev. J. C. Brogan, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, conducted the services. Miss Lois Crook, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brogan and Grover Piper sang, accompanied by Miss Zelda Mae Renfro. Pallbearers were Charles Ellis, F. F. Nelson, B. W. Grieder, H. E. Nelson, Edgar McCullough and Reese Richards. Burial was in the Selser cemetery near Wichita. Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Richard Flum, of Madison.
