Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Charles and Viona (Kimball) Heinze.

He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1965.

He worked as a computer supervisor for New York State Teacher's Retirement for more than 20 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a baseball umpire and member of the Capital District Umpires Association for over 30 years.

He loved roller skating and big game hunting.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Elks also an avid fan of college football.

He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Heinze and grandchildren, Steven Stark and Joshua Reagan.
