Yoli attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, before attending University of Tampa earning a degree in Elementary Education (grades K-12). Later she received her Master’s in English Education and Administration and Supervision from University of South Florida. Yoli began her teaching career in 1959 at Egypt Lake Elementary, later teaching at Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary, Greco Junior High School and C. Leon King High School, where she eventually became the English department head. In 1987, Yoli married Dale Adams who was a coach and teacher at King High School. In addition, Yoli coordinated the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Yoli also taught at Hillsborough Community College for numerous years. After 43 years in education, Yoli retired in 2002. During her retirement, Yoli continued her love of teaching by tutoring neighborhood children and volunteering at King High School and Woodmont Charter School.
Family, friends, and serving Corpus Christi Catholic Church, were Yoli’s passion and delight. Yoli actively served as the director of the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s “Joe Latina Pantry”, which is a valued community program in feeding and assisting the less fortunate; providing food for more than 4,000 people in the community. Yoli sacrificially volunteered as Sacristan at Corpus Christi, preparing the gifts for morning mass. Yoli was recognized with the “Light of Corpus Christi” award in 2008.
In 2011, Yoli was top finalist for Temple Terrace “Citizen of the Year”.
Visitation for family and friends of Yolanda Adams will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
