CHILHOWIE, Va. Fred A. Martin, 80, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014. Fred was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Martin served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. He retired from Sprint after 38 years of service and was a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church in Chilhowie. He loved to camp, farm, and socialize with his many friends.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Hurley A. and Vennie H. Martin; one son, David A. Martin; one brother, Ray A. Martin; and a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma Jean and Donald Bruce Johnson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Linda C. Martin; one daughter, Mary Lynne Martin of Chilhowie, Va.; four sons, Rodney Morris of Huntsville, Ala., Danny Morris and Tina of Chilhowie, Va., Jodi L. Morris and Kimberly of Marion, Va., and Tony Morris and Bobbi Jo of Marion, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Janet Martin of Fries, Va.; seven granddaughters, Sarah Sturgill, Crystal and Summer Morris of Chilhowie, Va., Shannon Morris of Abingdon, Va., Victoria Morris of Bristol, Tenn., Erica Hollandsworth of Meadowview, Va., and Alexandria Lefler of Marion, Va.; one grandson, Jackson Morris of Marion, Va.; five great grandchildren, Khyle, Hunter, Stella, Aspen, and Rosalyn; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. George Jesse officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014, in the Grosses Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
