He belted 11 more homers in 1947, but his average dipped to .205. On September 1 of that year, he was involved in a triple play pulled by the Chicago Cubs. Ray Mueller hit a liner to shortstop Bobby Sturgeon, who stepped on second to double up Eddie Miller. He then fired to third baseman Peanuts Lowrey, who caught Lukon off third. It marked the third time the Reds had been victimized by a triple play that season. His lifetime ledger was .236 with 23 homers and 70 RBIs.
