Mrs. Julia Taylor Barker, 87, of LaFayette died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Bethany House in Auburn.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, April 15 at noon CST at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Cecelia Broom officiating.

Burial will follow at Handy Cemetery in LaFayette.

The remains will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wheeler Barker of LaFayette; one brother, Joseph Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif.; one stepson, Joe William Barker of Philadelphia, Pa.; a devoted nephew, Noble (Corlene) Taylor of Nashville, Tenn.; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including lifelong friends Emma Robinson of Tuscaloosa and Barbara Williams of LaFayette.

Born Sept. 24, 1924 in Chambers County, Mrs.
Barker was the daughter of the late William and Lucindy Taylor. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church in LaFayette, where she served in many capacities over the years. Mrs.

Barker was educated in the Chambers County School System and graduated from Alabama State University in Montgomery. She retired from the Chambers County Board of Education after 32 years of service as a dedicated school teacher. Her last assignment was at Five Points Elementary School in Five Points.
