COOKEVILLE — Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Jane Childress, 85, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nancy Jane (Clark) Childress was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away quietly at her home on Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 2014.

She was born June 23, 1929, in Cookeville to the late Hubert H. (Jimmy) and Mable Holladay Clark.

She was married to Robert Quillen Childress on June 1, 1951, and was married for 46 years until his death in 1998.

Nancy Jane attended Cookeville Elementary School and graduated from Cookeville Central High School, where she played basketball for Eddie Watson and belonged to numerous clubs.

She received a bachelor’s degree in business from Tennessee Technological University where she was in the Business Honor Society and Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities.

Nancy Jane retired as vice-president from Cookeville Federal Savings and Loan in 1988, where she had worked for 36 years.

She was a member of the Cookeville Pilot Club, Tennessee Tech Faculty Women’s Club, a board member of the Cookeville History Museum and was past treasurer of the Putnam County Genealogical Society.

A member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church since l941, she was active in the United Methodist Women, Dorcas Circle, and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class, where she was the treasurer.

She was an avid bridge player and a follower of Tennessee Tech Athletics.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert Clark and Colleen Childress of Cookeville; three grandsons, Kyle (Hollie) Childress of Algood, Andrew (Katy) Childress of Chattanooga and Jim Childress of Cookeville; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Childress of Algood and Andrew Wynne Childress Jr. of Cookeville.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Pathfinders Sunday school class and the Saturday Breakfast Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville First United Methodist Building Fund or Food Pantry, 165 East Broad Street; or The Robert Q. and Nancy Childress Scholarship Fund at Tennessee Tech University, P.O. Box 1915, both in Cookeville, TN 38501.

Dr Martin Thielen and Rev. Whitney Mitchell will officiate at the services.
