Son of Samuel Mecham Sr and Elizabeth Ball Mecham. Born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. While considered a farmer, most of his life was devoted to spreading the Gospel. At the age of 25 he entered the Cival War. At the end of the war, he married Nancy Brothwell in Knox County, Illinois, in the year 1865. They had a total of 10 children. During their marriage, they faced some hard times. Their first four children all died before reaching the age of 5. One year after the death of their youngest son, Nancy also died, leaving Samuel with 5 children to raise. Although Samuel Married again, he only had children with Nancy: Margaret Ann, Nancy Ann, James Noah (b 1877) Ace Streeter (b 1883), Daisy Ann (b 1881), Westly Grant (b Apr 27, 1885 in Taylor County Iowa, d Nov 29, 1966 in Udall, Kansas). Later married Benjamine Cheeseman and Nancy Ann Cheeseman
