Helen L. (Bengel) Martens, 83, of Grand Island died on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Golden Living Center-Lakeview.
To honor Helen’s wishes, cremation will take place. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Teresa Mason will officiate. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Allan D. Martens Sr., six grand children and 13 great-grand children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1998, parents, five sisters and a brother.
Helen was born on December 14, 1930 in Greeley County to Lester and Celestia (Widmeyer) Bengel.
She was raised and received her education in Ord, NE.
On November 16, 1952 she was united in marriage to Harry Martens in Moorhead, MN, where they lived until they moved to Grand Island in 1980.
Helen was a member of VFW Post 1902 Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles Lodge Local 873, and Wesly United Methodist Church in Crookston, MN. While living in Grand Island she was a member of the Platt-Deutsch Society and Trinity United Methodist Church.
She had a strong faith in the Lord and a deep love for her family.
