Norman Jerome Rich, 67, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Oct. 5, 2011, after an extended illness.
He was born in Southside, Ala., on Feb. 15, 1944. Norman was in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and then enjoyed service in the Air National Guard for many years. He spent his professional career as an insurance adjustor and then office manager of an independent insurance company.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill, Ga., where he was a deacon. He also ministered as part of the Truckstop Ministry.
Norman loved to serve others and lift their spirits and encouraged his family to do the same. He always had a funny story or a joke to share. He loved to travel, laugh, read and was devoted to Alabama football. Roll Tide! He lived his life by putting God first, followed by family and friends. His wonderful spirit will be missed by many.
Norman is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean McCorvey Rich, whom he dearly loved, and his two daughters, Amber Michelle Fordham and Lyndsey Ann Rich; and son-in-law, Bryan Fordham. He spoke often of how proud he was of his family, especially their service in missions work.
Norman is also survived by his brother, Kerry Rich; niece, Alexander Rich; and great-niece, Cameron; along with many other family members. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Adkins, widower of Norman's sister, Ginger.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Carter Funeral Home in Richmond Hill. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2011. (obituary in The Gadsden Times, Oct. 7, 2011)
