Stanton Heater attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934 and 1935. He was serving as Fourth Assistant Engineer when the oil tanker Indian Arrow, which had sailed from Corpus Christi, Texas for Carteret, New Jersey, was sunk by a torpedo from U-103 about 20 miles southeast of Cape May, New Jersey. It appears as if his remains were lost at sea.
