On our farm we had a blacksmith shop which all the neighbors were free to use. When my brother Archie was about 5 years old, a neighbor who had a boy Archie's age came to sharpen a plow. Archie and the other little
boy ran through the shop and a piece of red-hot steel flew into Archie's eye. There was a good doctor in Richland who treated him, but he lost his sight in that eye, Mother had me stay on the pallet with Arch and doctor that eye and take care of him. So we grew up with me trying to take care of Arch, but later he lost sight in the other eye.
