Nora Margaret (Evans) Johnsen from
Newell was born May 27, 1903 in Coon
Township, north of Newell, to John and
Bertha (Williams) Evans. She was baptized
in Newell United Methodist
Church. She attended Coon Township
Country School and Newell High School.
On May 1, 1925 she was married to
Martin Nels Johnsen in Storm Lake.
They lived on three different farms near
Newell, then moved to Newell in 1940.
She began working at cleaning houses
at the age of 11. She worked hard all of
her life. She was a faithful member of die
United Methodist Church. She was also a
member of United Mediodist Women,
United Methodist Circles, the Neighborhood
Club and the Women's Relief
Corps. She loved to cook and clean. She
was devoted to her husband.
She is survived by her daughter and
husband Norma and George Brighton of
Newell; three grandchildren: David and
Becky Brighton of Storm Lake, Marcia
and Jeff Brighton-Brebner of Newell and
Mark and Amy Brighton of Paullina; six
great-grandchildren: Kolin and Katie
Brighton of Storm Lake, Valerea and
Zachary Brebner of Newell and Laura
and Kyle Brighton of Paullina.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Martin; two sisters,
Louella Bellows and Alice Willfong; two
brodiers, Roy Evans and Glen Evans.
