Margaret (Gustafson) Mielke
Hardin--Mrs. John (Margaret Gustafson) Mielke, 68, formerly of Montana, died in Anchorage, Alaska, after a brief illness. Born in Minnesota, she came to Stillwater county with her parents at the age of 5 or 6 and attended Rapelje and Billings schools. She taught several years in the Hardin area and married John Mielke in 1937. In 1941 they moved to Anchorage, where they had lived since.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter in Sand Point, Idaho; two brothers, William Gustafson of Great Falls and Raymond Gustafson of Conrad; and a sister, Audrey Roth of Big Sandy.
Married 8/8/1937 Bozeman, Gallatin County, Montana to John Clifford Mielke. License #6431.
Margaret Alice (Gustafson) Mielke was the first official poet laureatte of Alaska. Margaret died of pneumonia after emergency surgery.
