Josie Lee Beard Mowers, of Thorndale, TX., born November 22, 1934, age 79, went home to be with The Lord, Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Josie was a good friend and always ready to help someone in need. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary post 4009, and in her earlier days, was a devoted volunteer. Josie and husband, David, were founding members of Faith Baptist Church for 31 years.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and trusted friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She's preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, David A. "Pete" Beard; her second husband, SSGT Arthur "Red" Mowers (Ret.); her parents, William and Bessie (Shields) Smith, and step father Porter (Nick) Nichols.
She is survived by her children, Ima Jean Weise of Taylor, Barbara and husband Keith Lacey of Hockley, Carol Beard and Brian Sakewitz of Thorndale, Margaret and husband Michael Miller of Taylor, Betty and husband Sam Pickett of Thorndale, David Lee and wife Bernadette Beard of Cypress, Brenda and husband Danny Hernandez of Thorndale, and Billy and wife Denise Beard of Dimebox; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 8, 2014 at 12pm with funeral services immediately following at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Thorndale, TX. with Pastor Jeremy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Beard, Billy Beard, Keith Lacey, Michael Miller, Sam Pickett, and Danny Hernandez.
The family would like to thank Wesleyan Nursing Home for the loving care Josie received while living there and Scott and White Hospital doctors and nursing staff in Round Rock, TX.
