WINFIELD - Fred Phillip Lovejoy Jr., 56, of Winfield died March 25, 2003, at Coliseum Medical Center, Macon, Ga., after a short illness.
He was employed by W.G. Yates and Sons Construction Co. in Forsythe, Ga. Mr. Lovejoy's family resides in Winfield, W.Va. Fred was a graduate of Winfield High School, Class of 1964, and went on to graduate from Southern Utah State College with a BA degree in Spanish. Mr. Lovejoy served a Mormon mission to Bogota Colombia, being one of the first people to bring Mormonism to Colombia.
Fred was also a very talented author. He started a memoir of his family's history growing up in Scary Creek, W.Va. He also contributed some of those stories to be put in the Putnam Democrat in a column entitled "Putnam Past."
Surviving are his wife, Drema Lovejoy; daughters, Katie and Jody Lovejoy at home; grandson, David Michael Lovejoy at home; sister, Zenel Hunter of Houston, Texas; brother, Chuck Lovejoy of Charlotte, N.C.; nephew, Michael Lewis of Houston, Texas; many other cousins and relatives.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1068 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane with Bishop Scott Swindleman officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville, W.Va.
