Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Stephen Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Sidney was born March 13, 1927, in Quanah to Bert Thompson and Margaret “Jeffie” Rodgers Thompson.
Sidney graduated from Quanah High School. He briefly attended Texas A&M before joining the Navy in 1944 to fight in the Pacific aboard a mine sweeper during World War II.
After the war, he attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, where he met Marian E. McGlaun of Tulia. They were married on Sept. 11, 1948, in Tulia. After graduating from Texas Tech, they lived in Dumas before moving to Amarillo in 1952.
Sidney worked at many sales jobs before becoming a teacher at Tascosa High School, where he taught for five years. In later life, he ran his own businesses including apartments, farming and ranching. He was a member of the Apartment Association of the Panhandle and served as president for two years. He was active in cattle ranching until his passing.
He is survived by two sons, Hal and wife Carol of Phoenix and Jeff and wife Elizabeth of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Leah, Katherine, Aaron, Erika and Zach; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
