DELTA-Effie S. Shockey, 96, a resident of Delta for 24 years, died on Thursday, Feb 13, 1997, in the Delta Care Center. Private family services will be held, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Mesa View Mortuary Cemetery of Delta. Born on April 12, 1900, in Perry, Oklahoma, Effis S. Brock was the daughter of Edward Sherman and Mary Ann Whetzel Brock. She spent her childhood, received her education and grew to adulthood in Oklahoma. She married Elbert S. Shockey on Dec 25, 1916 in Pocasset, Okla. The Shockeys lived in Oklahoma and Flagstaff and Phoenix, Ariz, prior to moving to Delta 24 years ago where Mrs Shockey was preceded in death by her husband in 1976. Before her retirement, Mr Shockey was employed as a housekeeper. She is survived by one son, John M. Shockey of Camp Verce, Arizonia, one daughter, Mary M. Davis, of Delta; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. In additon to her husband and parents, Mrs Shockey was also preceded in death by one son, Elbert Steven Shockey, Jr; one daughter, Ida Isabel Banta and her husband; and seven brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Calvary Chapel of Delta, formerly the Crossroads Community Church of Delta. Mrs Shockey enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embrodering, sewing and gardening.
