Clayton O. "Butch" Garrett, Jr. age 62, was called to his heavenly home on Nov. 28, 2014. He was born Feb. 11, 1952 at the Coast Guard Lighthouse housing quarters in Carrabelle, Fla. His parents were Clayton O. Garrett, Sr., Retired Master Chief of USCG and his mother, Ann Lell (Miller) Garrett. Butch, as most of his friends called him, graduated from Bay County High School in 1970 and joined the US Coast Guard that same year. His career spanned 23 years as he served on the Point Sal out of Grand Isle, La., USCG Station Fort Myers Beach, Fla., USCG Support Center in Kodiak, Alaska, USCG Buttonwood in Galveston, Texas, USCG White Pine in Mobile, Ala. and two separate tours of duty at USCG Station Pascagoula with his last tour as Officer in Charge for five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jo (Lesner) Garrett, two sons, Clayton Garrett III of Atlanta, Ga., and John (Jamie) Garrett of Cottonport, La.; two beautiful granddaughters who were the light of his life, Anna Grace Garrett and Kate Elizabeth Garrett. Also his sisters, Donna (James) Pate and Teresa Conway; brother-in-law Ray (Staci) Lesner; sister-in-law Becky (Herbert) Cousin along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Butch was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moss Point where he served as lector, Eucharistic Minister, parish council member and welcome minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus council 1605 where he held the position of Financial Secretary and was also a 4th degree KC.

Honorary pallbearers are Robbie Goff, Rickey Livingston, Emery Elder, Dr. Randy Roth, Bill Massey, Gene Bodden, Butch Gager and Duncan May. Serving as pallbearers are Zachary Lesner, Mark Pate, Mathew Pate, John Sherlock, Randy Wagner and Robbie Bernard.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., on Wednesday Dec. 3 at 1:15 p.m., with military honors.
