Arkline Joseph "Ike" Simonetti, 92, of Harwick, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Canterbury Place Hospice, Pittsburgh, after suffering a stroke two weeks earlier. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Ligonier, to the late Francesco and Firlinda Emidiola Simonetti. He was a 1942 graduate of Ligonier High School. Ike was in his late teens when his family moved to Russellton, later, he served his country as a sergeant in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines as a mess cook. He said, "Someone had to keep our boys' bellies full!" After the war, Ike was a barber for a short period before taking a position as a machinist at Scaife's, later known as Kellogg-America in Oakmont, where he retired in 1982. He was a member of the UAW Local Union, secretary of Union for many years and a member of Columbiana Italian Society in Arnold, as well as the Italian Club in New Kensington. Ike was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Church and an usher at the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass for many years. He was an avid sports fan and could be found sitting in his favorite recliner chair yelling and watching baseball, football and wrestling. He enjoyed playing cards, planting his garden, golfing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edith (Rainaldi) Simonetti; his children, Linda (David) Bertram, of Winchester, Va., Gerald, of Winchester, Va., Liane (Brad) Majoy, of Westlake, Ohio, Dennis (Laura), of Fox Chapel, and Lisa (Dick) Matyas, of New Kensington; grandchildren, Michelle, Diane, Brian, Daniel, Lauren, Steven, Cali, Emily and Maggie Jo; stepgrandchildren, Ally and Amy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Yourish, Roma Guerrieri, Annie Gezzi and Clara Frigge; three brothers, Dominic, Pete and Bill Simonetti; and his son, Robert Simonetti. The family invites friends and relatives to attend visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, the CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1607 Pittsburgh St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Victory Church with the Rev. Alan Morris officiating.
