Shawn R. O'Brien age 47, of Albia and formerly of Knoxville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Shawn has been cremated and his family will be greeting friends from 1-3 pm Saturday, December 6, 2014. Private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, with Pastor Phillip Frankford officiating.
Shawn was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on March 25, 1967, the son of Howard L. and Sandra Kae(Mohler)O'Brien, Sr. When Shawn was very young his family moved to Knoxville. He attended Knoxville school and was active in wrestling. After school Shawn was a welder an d was currently working with Hometown Fabrication of Albia.
Shawn was united in marriage to Lisa Visser. They were blessed with two children before divorcing. Shawn was blessed with six children: Stacy, Jacob, Collin, Gabriel, Abigail "Abby" and Rorie.
Shawn enjoyed music, electronics and video games. He especially liked spending time with his family.
Shawn is survived by his children, Stacy(Casey)Frye of Harvey, Jacob O'Brien of Des Moines, Collin O'Brien, Abigail "Abby" O'Brien and Rorie O' Brien all of Knoxville; and two grandchildren, Kirsten Palmer and Liam Frye. Shawn is also survived by his mother Sandra DeVore of Albia; two sisters, Paige O'Brien of Burlington and Royal(Jamison)Harbison of Richland; two brothers, Howard O'Brien, Jr. and Patrick, O'Brien both of Knoxville; his step sister Melissa Sayre of California and his two step brothers, Chad Hines and Eric Hines both of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his father Howard O'Brien, Sr.; his son in infancy Gabriel; and his sister Patricia Thomas.
A memorial in Shawn's memory has been established to his family. The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is helping Shawn's family with services.
