Evelyn Burton Sammons Bass quietly made her heavenly journey home, passing away in her sleep November 4, 2014. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday with her children.

She was born November 1, 1925 to parents, the late Burnell and Opal Sammons. Evelyn grew up on the family farm six miles north of Whiteville, TN in the Cedar Chapel community.

Evelyn graduated from Whiteville High School in 1943 as salutatorian of her class. Following graduation, she diligently worked as a teller at Whiteville Savings Bank during the World War II years.

She married R. P. Bass, Jr. (Bobby) on February 15, 1948. They raised two sons and a daughter in Whiteville. Evelyn, as homemaker, also worked as the bookkeeper for the Whiteville family business, Bass Oil Company.

Mrs. Bass actively served as Sunday School teacher and choir member at Whiteville United Methodist Church. More importantly, she vibrantly lived a committed Christian faith throughout her life with her family and in the community.

Being a member of the Whiteville civic organization, the Inter Se Club, she supported numerous, local community endeavors.

Following the passing of her husband Bobby, who passed away March 25, 2002, Evelyn moved to Nashville in 2003. There she became a faithful resident at St. Paul Senior Living, residing independently until her death. She also regularly attended the nearby St. Paul Community Church in Nashville.

Mrs. Bass leaves three children: Bert Bass of Memphis, TN; Marty (Connie) Bass of Hendersonville, TN; Elaine Bass (Don) Scholes of Brentwood, TN; two sisters: Norma Edwards, Murray, Ky; Rosalyn Browder, Bolivar, TN; two granddaughters, Claire Scholes, New York City, NY; Mari Leigh Scholes, Brentwood, TN; Step-grandchildren Shannon Cox, Hendersonville, TN; Seth Budai, Naples, FL; six nieces, one nephew, and four step-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marion Sammons.
