Mr. Robert B. (Jit) Washington, Sr.
A native Mobilian was born October 23, 1934 and died in a local hospital Sunday, September 10, 2000. Jit was a 25 year Merchant Seaman retiree (NMU), a faithful Usher Board Member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and member of the Foster Grandparent Program. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert B. Washington, Jr. and father, James R. Williams. He is survived by his wife, Grace Bettis Washington, Mount Vernon, AL; daughter, Daphne (Terry) Dudley, Mobile, AL; son, Reginald (LaDonya) Washington of Pensacola, Florida; three grandchildren, Chelsa A., Breona L., and Reginald Washington, Jr., Pensacola, Florida; mother, Bernice Williams; three sisters, Doris (Freddie) Howard, Bernadette Brown, Vereta Williams; brother, James R. Williams, Jr., all of Mobile , AL; a devoted friend, Pearl Singleton, Mobile; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. His remains will lie in state at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 13, 2000 from 12:00 until 5:00PM and after 9:00AM Thursday, September 14, 2000 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 714 Savannah St. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00AM at which time Rev. P. H. Lewis, Pastor, will conduct funeral service. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Memorial Garden. Arrangements by CHRISTIAN BENEVOLENT FUNERAL HOME, 201 N. Hamilton St., Mobile, AL 36603.
