GEORGE T. COOPER

Services are scheduled for George T. Cooper, 83, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, who died Thursday at a local nursing home.

The Rev. Jeffrey Symonds of Trinity Methodist Church will officiate. Graveside services will be held at White Oaks Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Sept. 3.

George was born October 6, 1907 in Ancho to Jim and Lucy Henley Cooper.

He married Ruth A. Pearce on October 27, 1961. She survives him.

Other survivors include two sons, Ray Cooper and his wife Jeanne of Scottsdale, Airz., and Gerald Cooper of Tucumcari; one daughter, Betty Vaughn of Ruidoso; seven grandchildren, Stacy Cooper of Scottsdale, Robbie Boyd, Scott Boyd and Robbie Boyd, all of Scottsdale, Tommy Cooper of Red Oak, Texas, Richard and Karen Vaughan of Castro Valley, Calif. and Valerie Brunelli and her husband, Roger, Jr. of Denver; five great-grandchildren, Andrea and Larissa Cooper of Red Oak, Elisa and Jericho Vaughan of Castro Valley, and Michelle Dawn Brunelli of Denver.

Also surviving Mr. Cooper is one sister, Leslye Van Schoyck and her husband Wayne of Walsenburg, Colo; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George had been a resident of Roswell and Lincoln County most of his life. He had been employed in various areas of civil service for the U. S. government for 52 years.

George and his wife were inducted into the New Mexico Square Dance Association Hall of Fame. George was a pioneer in sound equipment for square dances and has built speakers for many well-known square dance callers throughout the country.

They were instrumental in forming the Southwest New Mexico Callers Association in 1960, which evolved into what is now the Southeast District of NMSDA. He managed a record shop and sold records, speakers and public address systems. He also helped assembled the News Notes in Roswell when it first began.

Pallbearers will be Rip Coleman, Willard Davis, Neal Hadsel, Bill Hightower, Gary Hightower, John Allen Hightower, Milton Lutrell, Dick Parrish, Hubert Roe and Tom Thorne.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
