Dorris E. Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away of natural causes Thursday, July 19, 2012 in Topeka. She was born June 4, 1919 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Reverend Alfred H. and Alta Susan Tebben. She was one of four children, all preceding her in death. She was a graduate of Holton High School and attended Kansas Wesleyan where she met her husband Harold C. Johnson. They were married in Wichita on January 27, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2008; they were married for 69 years. The family settled in Parsons KS in 1948. She finished her Masters in Education soon after at Pittsburg State University and would spend most of the next three decades teaching high school English and broadening the horizons of her students. She and Harold moved to Topeka KS in 1982 to enjoy their golden years and be nearer family. She was an avid reader and traveler that loved making people smile. She was a member of P.E.O. chapter CS. Survivors include her children, Susan E. Hughes of Topeka KS and H. Kemper Johnson of New York NY; two grandsons, Jeff H. Hughes of Topeka KS and John Hughes of Topeka and his wife, Stephanie; great granddaughters, Taylor, Talisa and Tateum and extended family of Leanna, Anita and Anna Parrish.
