Doug Chugg, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 2, 1934 in Smithfield, Utah to Melvin and Ruth Rash Chugg.
He was raised on a farm in Providence, Utah where he learned the value of hard work and a love of animals. He graduated from South Cache High School and Seminary. He played football, basketball, and baseball. He married his sweetheart, Karen Hansen, in the Logan Temple on October 8, 1954. He had a successful career in telecommunications working for Western Electric, where Doug and Karen traveled and lived in many different places in their early years of marriage. He was a great Dad, taking his family camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, waterskiing, and teaching them to love the outdoors. He enjoyed coaching many youth baseball and basketball teams, allowing him to spend time with his son.
He was an active member of the LDS church where he served in many capacities. He particularly enjoyed working with the young men, where he was often referred to as "Papa Chugg". He was a great example of showing compassion and giving service. Everyone he met felt his warmth and kindness and was considered his friend. Doug had a warm loving smile that will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughters Kristy (Garry) Young, Marianne Lindsey, Bonnie (Trey) Mooney, Diane (Norm) Gardner, and son Dave (Denise) Chugg and his brother Jon Chugg. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild due to arrive in December.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clair, sister Leona and his son Joel Douglas Chugg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 12:00 pm at the Sterling Ward Chapel. There will be a viewing prior to services at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There will be an additional viewing on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Providence 1 Ward Chapel, 420 West 100 North, Providence, Utah from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery.
