Mr. Amos A. (Red) Hitchcock, age 84, of Jonesboro, passed away June 1, 2007. He was born June 29, 1922 in Jersey, GA.

He was a World War II Veteran serving in the military police platoon 8th Corps. United States Army. He received the World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars, and an American Service Medal.

On March 8, 1948, Amos went to work for Ford Motor Company's Hapeville, GA plant and retired after 40 years of employment. He was a loyal United Auto Workers member and attended meetings up until he became unable to in January of this year.

Amos loved the outdoors and leaves the children and grandchildren with many wonderful memories of camping and fishing. He lived and enjoyed the slower pace of life in his retirement years in the foothills of North Georgia mountains.

Amos was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jean Hitchcock and his daughter, Shirley Hitchcock. He is survived by four sons, John C. Sigler, Charles D. Sigler, David E. Sigler, and James "Butch" Smith; daughter, Laura Burrell and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2007 at 11AM in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, Rev. Ray Waters will officiate. Interment Dawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends, Sunday, June 3, 2007, from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
