Rendalia was named for the Reynolds family of Mount Ida Plantation, often simply called Mt. Ida.

Walker Reynolds was a wealthy planter and promoter of Talladega and Talladega County, settling in Alabama in 1832 among the native Indians. In 1849 he was elected to the legislature on the Whig ticket, and during his service there succeeded in securing passing of a charter giving to the county a railroad running through its entire length, then known as Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, and afterwards as the Selma, Rome & Dalton Railroad.

Walker Reynolds was the son of Reuben Reynolds and Margaret Walker, and grandson of Thomas Reynolds. Thomas Reynolds was a grandson or great-grandson (depending on which family tree is correct) of Thomas Reynolds (c1655-1703) who most say was a son of Christopher Reynolds, though some say his brother Thomas Reynolds. Thomas (b.c1655) was either a brother or first cousin of Cecily Reynolds Bailey Jordan Farrar, called one of the “Mothers of Virginia” for having so many prominent Virginia families are among her progeny.
