PORTALES, N.M. - Guy M. Martin, 77, died Monday, July 21, 1997, in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Portales Cemetery with Scott P. Reeves officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Martin was born in the Upton community, where he lived during his early years. He lived in Taiban in 1939 and graduated from high school there. In 1940, he entered the Navy and served until 1949. He attained the rank of chief machinists mate. After his discharge he returned to Taiban, where he and his brother were partners in a ranching and farming operation. In 1954, they moved to Floyd, where he farmed and ran a dairy for many years. Mr. Martin was active for a number of years in the Floyd Lions Club. He served as president of the PTA and helped with 4-H when his boys were in school. He attended Melrose Baptist Church. He married Ida Pearl Hobbs in 1944 at Fayetteville, Ark. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Homer Wayne Martin of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Charles Ray Martin of Portales; a sister, Ina Marie Bryant of El Paso, Texas; and four grandchildren.
