He worked for American Byproducts, formerly Kippes Rendering, Ellis, for many years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a stepson, Joe Beer, Ellis; a stepdaughter, Rebecca McDonald, Ellis; four brothers, Ralph, Harry, and Clarence, Hays, and LeRoy, Lyons; a sister, Betty Madison, Blue Springs, Mo.; three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, John Beer in 1995.
Services were May 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Galen Long officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Wasinger Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the church or to the Alcoholics Anonymous Association of Ellis County.
