Katherine Elizabeth Porter Hudson was born on January 31, 1922 in McCarley, Mississippi to the late Clifton Porter and the late Mamie Evans. She was the fifth child of thirteen children.

Katherine confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church where she later taught school aged children. She united in holy matrimony to Tom Henderson Hudson, August 21, 1944. From this union, six children were born.

Katherine resided in Winona, MS, for the majority of her life and was a member of Winona Baptist Church where she was also a member of the church choir, a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Baptist Training Union (BTU). She took her children to church every Sunday and ensured they were active in the church, as well.

Katherine was a very active member of her community. She taught “Head Start” for many years in Winona and saw numerous of her young students grow up to be productive citizens in the community. She also participated in the Four H Club where she helped provide positive youth development for the young children in her community. She was a strong believer that everyone should take advantage of their right to vote and worked the polls and counted votes for all elections in Winona, MS. She also used her education to prepare annual income taxes for many of her neighbors. Katherine was blessed to have a strong example of establishing a since of self-worth in herself and others by her grandfather, Hinds Porter Sr. who acquired land and built a church and school in Carroll County, MS in 1898. She always had high expectations for family, neighbors and her community.

Katherine was an excellent seamstress. She made all types of garments from every day wear and dress suites to elaborate evening gowns and wedding dresses. She made a very memorable prom dress for one of her youngest sisters, Nathalie. It was beautiful.

Katherine was called to glory Friday, November 21, 2014 in the arms of her loving daughter Rita. She is gone from us today but the vision of who she was and what she stood for will live on through those who knew and loved her.

Katherine leaves to cherish her memories to two sons, Troy Hudson (Annie) of St Louis, MO, Roland Hudson, who preceded her in death; four daughters, Charlotte McNutt (James) of St Louis, MO, Jeanette Doyle of Tacoma, WA, Lorraine Hudson of St Louis, MO and Rita M. Rivers of Cibolo, TX; three sisters, Marilyn Harvey of Chicago, IL; Nathalie Bryant of Indianapolis, IN; and Margaret Patterson, of Indianapolis. IN; seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
