William B. Marshall, a successful agriculturist of Bell County, was born in the then Territory of Arkansas. He is the son of John Pleasant Marshall and Elizabeth (Brown) Marshall. At the age of seventeen, William Marshall migrated with his parents to Bell County, Texas.

He married Martha Jane Kiser on August 30, 1855 in Georgetown, Texas, and he began his life as a farmer until the Civil War in 1861. He served as Second Sergeant in Company K, 1st. Texas Mounted Rifles, CSA. After the war, he returned home and resumed his farming and stock-raising.

William and Martha Marshall have six children. They are Margaret Ann, Martha Jane, John Pleasant, Mary Elizabeth "Mollie", Ara Isabell, and James William Marshall.
