White, Charlotta [sic], d. 20 November 1874, Brainerd, cause of death, dropsy; age 62 years, 13 days; b. Franklin, New York; arrived in Minnesota 01 July 1855; parents Mehitable & Daniel Eddie [sic] [Edwards], parents born East Hampton, Long Island, New York

Death of Mrs. J. M. White.

We are sorry to chronicle the death of Charlotte Edwards, consort of our estimable citizen, Mr. James M. White, which occurred on Thursday [sic] of last week, after a lingering illness of eleven months, of dropsy of the heart. Mrs. White was sixty-two years old at the time of her death, and was a most excellent Christian lady. During her long illness she was patient and resigned and went to sleep in death enjoying a bright hope of a glorious immortality. The funeral took place on Sunday last, and the remains were followed to their final resting place by a large cortege of our citizens. Mrs. White was the daughter of Captain Edwards, of East Hampton, L. I., (a man of considerable note in his time) and her parents were members of the Rev. Dr. Lyman Beecher's church and were married by that distinguished divine. Mrs. White had been the loving mother of seven children, and leaves, also, twelve grand children. Mr. White, with his family, has the sincere sympathy of his many friends in Brainerd, in this his sad bereavement.

                  CARD OF THANKS.

I hereby tender my heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends of myself and family in Brainerd, for their generous assistance and sympathy during the illness of my beloved wife, now deceased. My gratitude is more than I can express; and it is my prayer that when each of them comes to arrive at the verge of time, and the door of eternity, their lot may be cast among such friends as I have found here during my sorrow.

                                    JAMES M. WHITE.

NOTE:This memorial is for someone buried between 1872 (when Evergreen was first created) and when it was re-organized in 1879. There are no burial records prior to 1879 and the burial location is unknown - if it is even in Evergreen - the obituary didn't say where, but Evergreen was the only cemetery in operation in Brainerd). No marker has ever been found. [John Van Essen]
