William M. CHAPMAN, born to Luna Franklin and Elizabeth Winfrey (WHITTENBERG) CHAPMAN in Cocke County Tennessee 8 May 1826, died in Williamson County Texas 29 May 1905. On 21 December 1871, William married Lavina Ann HYLAND, born in the Republic of Texas 5 October 1844, died in Round Rock, Williamson County Texas 6 January 1929. Both William and Lavina are buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

William's children by previous marriages:

i. Mary E. CHAPMAN, born in Tennessee ca. 1864

ii. William J. CHAPMAN, born in Tennessee ca. 1865

Per descendant R Eve: William Jefferson Chapman was the son of Wm.M. Chapman and Mary Maloy. He was born Jan 1862 according to most census records though his tombstone in Cody Wy., Has 1857. His sons Floyd and Stanley buried him.
This is my Mother's grandfather.

iv. Alexander CHAPMAN, born in Tennessee ca. 1868

Lavina married first to Joseph E. CLOUD. They had one child: In the 1880 Williamson County Texas census, Nancy J. CLOUD, born in Texas ca 1863. Lavina's second marriage was to James D. HANLEY, and they had one child: In the 1880 Williamson County Texas census, Loutene HANDLEY, born in Texas 28 April 1869. Both girls were living with the CHAPMAN family as "Step daughters"

William and Lavina's children:

i. Sarah S. CHAPMAN, born in Texas 12 September 1872, died in Williamson County Texas 29 December 1899. Sarah married William Mortimer HOUGHTON, and she is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery. Four years after Sarah's death, William married her 15-year-old sister Howell.

ii. Alice Eugenia CHAPMAN, born in Williamson County Texas 7 May 1874, died 18 October 1915. Married Elisha Napolean PREWITT. Alice is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

iii. Wiley Joseph CHAPMAN, born in Williamson County Texas 27 April 1879, died in Kingsville, Kleberg County Texas 18 November 1948. Married Nora May SANDERS.

iv. John Leonard CHAPMAN, born in Williamson County Texas 12 February 1883, died in Elgin, Bastrop County Texas 29 January 1964. Married Julia May RIFFE, whose father is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery. John and Julia had at least one child, who is also buried in Pond Springs Cemetery: Edna Lou CHAPMAN, born 17 November 1915, died 22 August 1921. Edna's marker has not been found.

v. Howell CHAPMAN, born in Williamson County Texas 11 February 1888, died 23 November 1958 in Amarillo Texas. Howell married her sister's widower William HOUGHTON (above). Per their death certificates, both are buried in Floydada Cemetery, Floyd County Texas.
