On March 12, 1919 she was united in marriage with Christopher Vander Pol and to this union four children were born; Harold John, Adrianna Vernice, Donald Ray, and Laurel Wayne.
For 48 years following their marriage, Chris and Tena lived and farmed the same farm east of Monroe on which he was born. While living on the farm, Tena was a dedicated gardener. In October of 1967, they moved to Pella.
Chris passed away unexpectedly December 31, 1968. Following Chris's death, Tena moved from their home and then became a resident to Hill top Manor North in Pella where she had resided the past 20 years.
Following a short illness, she passed away Saturday afternoon, December 26, 1998, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of 101.
As a young lady, Tena taught Sunday School and played the piano for her church then, the Tool’s Chapel Methodist Church, near Monroe. She had been a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Farm Bureau and K.Y.T. (Know Your township). After moving to Pella, she became a member of the First reformed Church of Pella where she was an honorary member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Tena was preceded in death by her husband, Chris; a grandson, Lynn Ray Vander Pol; her parents; and she was the last surviving member of her five sisters and four brothers.
