Michael Gifford, age 64, entered into eternal life on November 23, 2014, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; daughters, Yvette (David) Lilly, Shannon (Nolan) Gorney, and Janet Curin; son, John Gifford; grandchildren, Avery Benson, Bella Lilly, Keely Gorney, and Xavier Gorney; brothers, Russell (Susan) Gifford, Randy (Debbie) Gifford, and Rick (Laura) Gifford; brothers-in-law, John (MaryHelen) Znavor and Thomas (Vicki) Znavor; sister-in-law, Karen (Ronald) Both; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, his much loved Aunt Marian, and countless friends. Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Angie Gifford; and in-laws, John and Irene Znavor. Mike was born March 31, 1950 and spent his early childhood years in Hegewisch. Later his family moved to Dolton, where Mike graduated from Thornridge High School. He met Nancy in the fall of 1988 and they married on June 23, 1990. Mike retired from Inland Steel/Arcelor Mittal with 32 years of service in the transportation department. He was an avid White Sox Fan, enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, doing crosswords and Sudoku, and showing his classic cars. He was always quick with a joke. Mike enjoyed spending time with Nancy and their pets. Weekends often found them antiquing, at “the boats”, or walking the dog at the beach.
