An Australian Test cricketer. He played his only Test in Sydney in 1887, along with another Reginald (Wood, for England) who was drafted into the touring team while living in Australia. Allen was picked for the second Test after five top players had withdrawn through a pay dispute, and while he did not disgrace himself, scoring 14 and 30 in a low scoring match, he never played for Australia again.
He was the uncle of Gubby Allen, a captain of England who was born in Australia.
