Pembroke – Erna Joy Frost, 86, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with her children by her side. Joy was born in St. Stephen, NB, on September 19, 1928, daughter of the late Charles “Trapper” and Charlotte (Mahar) Lombard. She grew up in Meddybemps and graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1946, the year before it burned down. Joy attended the University of Maine at Orono before moving on to the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston where she earned her nursing degree. She received her commission as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida where she served as a psychiatric nurse. Following her service, Joy returned home to Maine and worked for a private practice in Bangor until she moved back to the town she loved, Meddybemps. She was a long-time nurse manager with the Skilled Nursing Facility at Calais Regional Hospital and was active with Down East Hospice. In 1965, she married her love, Merle Elliott Frost.

In addition to her parents, Joy was predeceased by her loving husband Elliott in April, 2000; and a sister, Virginia Rae Olsanki (Lombard). Surviving are her three children, Tafi Rae Hazlett of Bangor, Timothy Charles Frost of Bellingham, MA, and Thad Lewis Frost of Warwick, RI; and five granddaughters that she loved to try to spoil and share her home on the ocean with, Jessica, Melanie, Airyelle, Madeleine, and Charlotte.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. at the Meddybemps Cemetery on Green Hill Road in Meddybemps. A fellowship will follow the service at the Meddybemps Community Center.
