Born August 17, 1937, in Coudersport, PA, she was the daughter of George W. and Jean Mastin McCoy. A 1955 graduate of Northern Potter High School, she attended Temple University and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in urban anthropology. Her postgraduate work was at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and the University of Chicago.
A member of the Secular Franciscan Order, she was an associate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in Cincinnati, OH. Most of her work has been spent focused on social justice issues. Sandra returned to Ulysses in 2000 and moved to Germantown in 2012. She was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport, PA.
Surviving are: two sons, Charles Monroe (Samantha) of Jackson, WI and Vincent Monroe (Renee) of Carpentersville, IL; five grandchildren Robin, Adam, Michael, David and Jimmy; 2 great-grandchildren Matthew and Anakin; a sister, Karen Bransom (George) of Damascus, MD: a sister-in law Betty McCoy of Sanford, FL: four nieces Tammy, Tonya, Kimberli and Allyson and two nephews Todd and Tristin.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Bill McCoy, in 1995.
