Hertner , Mildred (Milly) Arline , resident of Fort Lauderdale since 1959, passed away on April 9, 2007, in Gainesville, Florida. She spent her life being the most loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Milly was born in Lakewood, Ohio on November 10, 1912 and was the daughter of George and Maude (Griffiths) Rudd. She graduated from Bay Village High School and the University of Michigan. She married the dashing, pre-med student, John Hertner, who lived down the street and also attended the University of Michigan. He went on to become a decorated naval doctor and hero of World War II. Together they reared 3 daughters. Milly was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker helping her doctor husband in every aspect of life. In 1959, they moved to Fort Lauderdale where John practiced ophthalmology near Broward General. Milly and John were members of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale. Milly was always active physically, swimming, playing tennis, gardening and even ventured into a real estate career in her seventies. Her loving heart has given courage and strength to all whose lives touched hers but most especially to her three daughters. Her husband, John, passed away in 2001 but she is survived by her daughters, two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four grandsons-in-law. There will be no funeral service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers anyone interested may make a donation to any Hospice Chapter. Milly and John's ashes will be scattered at sea by their family. For further information, please contact Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, Gainesville, Florida, 352-376-7556.
