Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League baseball for four seasons (1943 to 1946) as an outfielder with the Cincinnati Reds. A starter for three of his four seasons for the war-depleted Reds, his best season was 1945, when he hit .280 with 184 hits, 29 doubles, 50 runs batted in and 19 stolen bases in 153 games. He led the National League in at-bats with 656, and had 446 outfield putouts, second to Boston's Carden Gillenwater. He tailed off to .228 in 121 games in 1946, and played his last Major League game in September of that year. His career totals were a .258 batting average with 63 doubles, 6 triples, 3 home runs, 98 runs batted in, 203 runs scored and 39 stolen bases.
