George Washington Garret was born in Garrett, Johnson, Arkansas to Leonard Jefferson Garrett and Elizabeth Logan Dunivan in 1844. He was born 5th of 6th child and he and his family lived in the area that is the Historical Garrett Valley of Johnson County. George's father Leonard who was a blacksmith at this time had come to this area in the 1820's with his father Wesley Garrett and settled on this land near Wesley. This is in the Red Gin Road area of Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas. In the year of 1863 George enlisted in the civil war in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas with Company "D" Gordon's Regiment Arkansas Cavalry Confederate States Army. George served as a Private until the end of the war in 1865. He served honorably served with No Pay during this time was always Present for Roll Call. 7 years after the close of the civil war, George married Catherine Frances "Kate" Robinson of Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas 14 Mar 1872 in Johnson County, Arkansas. George and Kate lived in Spadra, Johnson, Arkansas after their marriage and during their life George and Kate had 2 daughters. The oldest, Mary Ann, who married Andrew J. Phillips a thriving orchard producer from Springdale, Benton, Arkansas Then their youngest, Sarah Jane, who married a thriving farmer of Spadra, Johnson County, Arkansas. During this time George was a farmer and eventually was stricken with one of the most painfull medical problems known to humans. Eventually George was granted a Pension in 1907 for his service during the civil war. In the year of 1911 George was granted an increase as he was a physical wreck and wholly unable for labor and was considered to be disabled with tic douloureux, which is a severe nerve pain on one side of the face as well as liver and kidney problems. George can be last found along with his wife, living with their daughter Mary in the 1910 Census Records for Springdale, Benton, Arkansas and his last, which is his Pension Increase filed in Johnson County, Arkansas in 1911. His probate which was filed at Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas at the county courthouse was administered by his daughter Sarah Jane's husband Wiley Jackson Harris or W.J. Harris. This probate record list George as passing interstate, which means in state, and has him passing on or about 4 Mar 1923, although I have not been able to locate his death record or burial location.
