Grand Ledge

Joseph E. Hurst, of Grand Ledge, loving husband, father, and grandfather triumphed over ALS on November 14, 2014 in St. Petersburg, FL and is now free after a courageous 2 year fight. He was born May 29, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He was a graduate of MSU, and was a Student Loan Officer for the State of Michigan for 33 years.

Joe loved his family, golf, running, the MAC, his beloved Sweetie cat, and vacationing on Beaver Island, MI and Redington Beach, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (Hewitt), daughters Audrey Walter of Okemos, Brenda (Kirk) Welter of Beaver Island, grandchildren Shayna Brummette, Heather (Garrett) Nuechterlein, Megan Walter, Kelsey Corr, Amanda and James Welter, and mother-in-law, Dorothy Hewitt.

Special thanks to Dave and Bette Shattler, George and MaryAnn Schultz, Fred Lustig, Mack Seney, his many friends, and the V.A. for making his journey easier.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, December 28 at 2pm (visitation at 1pm) at the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church, where he was a long time member. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to ALS research at www.alsa.org.
