She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 9, 1932 to Sarah Pearl Odle Hill. Viola's exposure to the beauty "industry" began when she served as a model during her teen years, and then later when she graduated from House of James Beauty College-then working many years as a stylist. For several years, she was employed by RCA Corporation.
Later she married Roy Griffith on February 14, 1986 and together they moved to Winter Haven, Florida, where they retired. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven. During the last three months of her life, she returned back to her home state of Indiana to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah PearlOdle Hill, Step-Father, John Herman Hill, husband, Roy Griffith, brother, Milburn Eugene Hill, and sister, Mary Janetta Hill.

Viola chose to be cremated, with her remains to be laid to rest next to her husband. Both the remains of Roy and Viola are buried at the foot of her husband's father, William R. Griffth at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
