  Funeral mass for August Bender, 463 Hoehn Ave., who died about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic church with interment in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Bender, 76, who was retired, had been a plasterer and laborer for 50 years.
  Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Lesley Marks funeral home. As a result of a recent fire there, the body will lie in state at the Schneider funeral home where friends may call this evening and until 9 a.m. Saturday. The rosary will be recited tonight at 7:30.  The Rev. John Spreen, assistant pastor of St. Boniface parish, will officiate at the Mass.
  Mr. Bender, an Edwardsville resident 70 years, was born April 10, 1886 in Highland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bender. He was married to Miss Anna Kerkemeyer on July 19, 1911 at St. Mary's Catholic church by the late Rev. C.A. O'Reilly.
  Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter, Lawrence F., Raymond J., and Mrs. Michael (Mary Frances) Krieger, all of this city; a sister, Miss Emma Bender, St. Louis; and six grandchildren.
  Preceding him in death were four brothers, Max, Joseph, John and Herman Bender, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Anna Ballweg.

Pallbearers were Paul Kerkemeyer, Leroy Lanahan, Nick, Michael and Gary Ladd, and James Krieger.
