James was born on June 18, 1939 to the late Walter and Mary Lou Traylor in Benton (Lowndes County), Alabama.
He confessed Christ at an early age at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
On June 18, 1960 he united in marriage for forty five years with Lugenia Traylor, who preceded him in death. James was an extremely supportive father. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Andrea Barrett, James Traylor, Jr., Connie Brown and Bonita Traylor. Also continuing his legacy are his grandchildren: Jazmone Traylor, Angela Brown, Charlene Brown, Eric Brown, Jr., Joseph Barrett, Michelle Barrett and William Barrett; great-grandchildren: Jaimeris Coleman, Reuben Mims, Tiant Pate, Teshawn Pate, Mariyah Pate and Lameria Sardin; great- great-granddaughter: Brooklyn Coleman. Also cherishing James’ memory are sister, Rosie Felder; nephews, Michael Traylor and Winfred Garner and niece, Donna Woods and a host of other relatives and friends

Burial: Union Memorial Garden, Plymouth, Michigan.
