Daughter of Benjamin Franklin Buckley of Fayette County, Virginia and Martha Ann Blain of Mason County, West Virginia.

Wife of John Allen Amsberry of Mason County, West Virginia; married on 24 September 1879 in Marion County, Iowa.

"Mrs. Mary C. Amsberry, nee Buckley, was born January 17, 1861 at Point Pleasant, West Virginia where she spent the first six years of life, after which she moved with her parents to Pella, Marion County, Iowa where she developed into young womanhood. Here she was united in marriage to J.A. Amsberry, September 24, 1879.
Mr. Amsberry, who had known her from childhood, came to Mason City a year and a half before their marriage. Then he returned to Pella, Iowa to get his bride. The day after the wedding, she accompanied her husband to Mason City and ever since then she has resided in this community, always defending and standing for the highest principles.
Our sister was converted about 28 years ago and was baptized by Rev. Ingham into the fellowship of the Baptist Church. The older members who knew her better than we of the younger generation because of their long years of intimate fellowship with her, testify that she has always lived an earnest, consecrated life. She was one of the faithful attendants and willing reliable workers.
In her home she was devoted to her family; no sacrifice was too great and no task too hard. With a masterful hand she created an atmosphere of perfect harmony and agreement.
Mrs. Amsberry contracted pneumonia April 23, while visiting at the home of brother-in-law C.C. Fisher and after an illness of nine days, she passed to her heavenly reward on May 2, 1918, at the age of 57 years, four months, two weeks and one day.
The bereaved are her husband, J.A. Amsberry, her three children, Mrs. R. H. Duke, Frank G. Amsberry and Mrs. William Dorsett and one grandson, Ferris Duke. Furthermore her mother, Mrs. Martha Gregory, her four brothers and four sisters. May God comfort these mourners.
The funeral was held Saturday from the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Fisher north of this city and interment was made in the Mason City Cemetery.
We extend to the husband and children our deepest sympathy."
